Intergenerational Cookie Baking Party

Calling all cookie makers and cookie lovers alike to make, bake, and decorate cookies and then assemble our freshly baked treats for delivery to our homebound members afterward. After worship and coffee hour on December 15, we’ll share a light lunch together before getting down to serious cookie making business in Kairos Hall! Contact Kim Michaud and Angie Ruhlin for more info!

Youth Group Family Christmas Party

Our youth group and their families are invited to celebrate Christmas together at the home of Michael and Maddie (Carol Gilliland and Jennifer O’Neal’s home) on Sunday, December 8 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A potluck sign-up will be sent via email. Everyone should bring a “white elephant” gift for the exchange.

All Church Christmas Party

Come join your DCC friends for an adult-only evening of fun, frivolity, wine, food and joyous Christmas caroling at our annual Christmas Party! We will gather Saturday, December 7, 6:00-9:00 pm in Kairos Hall. Please plan to contribute a heavy appetizer or a dessert to share, plus your beverage of choice. For those with children, childcare will be provided by the church. Please sign up in advance with Joyce Klassen so we can plan accordingly. Finally, we want to make this event accessible to all, so if you’re not comfortable driving at night, but would like to come, let Joyce know and we can figure out transportation. Please sign up during Time of Fellowship or contact Joyce Klassen directly.

Christmas Pageant Preparations

Believe it or not, it’s that time again. The Christmas Pageant will be Sunday, December 22 … with a few new wrinkles. While the pageant itself will remain intergenerational and participation open to anyone who shows up that morning, we will be using a new script and adding a couple of songs that the children will sing. We will be having rehearsals of 30-40 minutes the following Sundays after worship (as close to 10:30 am as possible, after a snack, in the Sanctuary) on December 1, December 8, and December 15. Attendance is not mandatory but encouraged. These will also be the dates for our costume fittings!

If you know your child(ren) will be participating, please let us know here or email Kim and Todd. Contact Kim or Pastor Todd for more info.

Greening of the Church

The worship commission needs everyone’s help to prepare our Sanctuary and campus for the Advent and Christmas seasons! All are invited to the Greening of the Church on Sunday, November 24 at 11:00 am during the Second Hour. Come one, Come ALL!

DCC Sister Parish Delegation to Guatemala

On Friday, October 25, 2019, a delegation from DCC departs for Guatemala to engage in relationship with our Sister Parish in San Antonio Cunen, Quiche. The purpose of this journey is to extend and deepen our relationship with our hermanamiento—our brothers and sisters—there as the delegation engages in relationship with these our siblings in Christ and experiences the realities of their lives and cultures on religious, political, social, and economic levels.

The entire DCC community is invited to pray daily for this delegation and our hermanamiento and to participate with the delegation by following this daily devotional guide.

You can pick up a printed copy of this devotional guide in the Narthex and the church office.

Second Hour: What Christians Do, Christians Sing!

One thing we do every Sunday morning is sing hymns – but for some of us, it might be the only time and place we ever sing. Our music director, John Kendall Bailey, will provide a special workshop on hymn singing, focusing on how to connect our speaking voice with our singing voice and giving some very easy tips for improving confidence and ability – essentially, a free voice lesson!
Every summer, many of our congregation members mention how much they miss the choir. But by brushing up our congregational hymn singing, perhaps we can miss them just a little bit less when they’re away! And when they are with us, we can join our voices with theirs with strength and joy to make our weekly services even more special and meaningful. Come Sunday, October 27 following worship at 11:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary for this special opportunity!

Pastor’s Bible Study Returns!

Pastor Eric will be re-launching the popular weekly Pastor’s Bible Study this fall! Mark your calendar for Wednesday, October 16 from 1–2:30 p.m.!

All are welcome to join Pastor Eric in a new 6-week series, Introducing the New Testament. This third part in the Exploring the Bible series shows you Jesus in three distinct ways: A man like other men, a Jewish rabbi, and the Christ of Christian faith. Then it’s on to the cantankerous Paul, the other New Testament authors, and the wild and baffling book called Revelation. We will meet for 6 consecutive weeks on Wednesday afternoons in the Spirit Room. No prior Bible experience needed. RSVP with Pastor Eric (eric@danvillechurch.org), and he will give you the information needed to purchase the Student Guide.

Sister Parish Delegation Trip

The DCC Sister Parish Committee invites all members and friends to consider joining our delegation traveling to Guatemala to visit our Sister Parish Community from October 25 to November 3.
We will spend 3 days in Guatemala City for orientation/educational sessions. Then we will travel to beautiful Antigua to meet up with our siblings from sister parish community from San Antonio, Quiche. We’ll spend three days together meeting, praying and playing together, including communal meals and cultural tours. When the San Antonio contingent heads home for their All Saints holiday, the DCC delegates will head to Lake Atitlan for two days before returning to Danville.
If you are interested in learning more about this delegation experience, please let us know. The cost is estimated at no more than $2,000 per person. This trip may be appropriate for teenagers traveling with a parent. And we look forward to answering any questions you may have.
Some scholarship funds may be available, please direct your scholarship requests to Pastor Eric. Questions about the trip, please contact Trish Moosbrugger.

Brunch for all Parents Hosted by Children’s Ministry

On Sunday, September 29, the Children’s Ministry is hosting a brunch in Kairos Hall for all parents of children through grade 5 and our ministry volunteers. Childcare will be provided. We want to share with our families all the good things about our Children’s Ministry, welcome new families, and hear from parents about their hopes for the faith formation of their children. Watch your email for more information and how to RSVP.
