Mission and Outreach

sister parish for web

At Danville Congregational Church, we are committed to serving God by serving others and being the hands and feet of God in our community. We help alleviate suffering and share the good news of God’s love through both our actions and our financial support. Below are some of our regular mission and outreach projects:

Winter Nights (click for more info)
Each year volunteers from DCC help San Ramon Valley United Methodist Church host the Interfaith Council of Contra Costa County’s Winter Nights Shelter for homeless families for the first half of February.

Sister Parish (click for more info)
Sister Parish promotes intercultural and ecumenical understanding by establishing linkages between churches in the United States and faith-based communities in Central America. The linkages are based on direct person-to-person contact, with delegates living in each other’s homes and sharing each other’s realities. Our current Joint Prayer Ministry is with San Antonio Catholic Church in San Antonio, Guatemala. For the past several years we have exchanged delegations, shared projects, and lifted up our prayers through our shared goals of consciousness-raising and solidarity.

Hope Solutions (click for more info)
Since 2008, we have provided financial support and volunteers have historically served in Hope Solutions (formerly known as Contra Costa Interfaith Housing) after-school, homework club. Hope Solutions heals the effects of poverty and homelessness by providing permanent housing solutions and vital support services to highly vulnerable families and individuals. We are proud to be one of the many faith communities that partners with Hope Solutions.

Christmas for Others
Members and friends of DCC provided more than 110 gifts for 50 people through SHELTER, Inc., Contra Costa Interfaith Housing, and Mary McGovern House.  Thank you all for participating and sharing Christmas with Others.

SHELTER, Inc. (click for more info)
We provide financial support and volunteers who prepare and serve meals during committed weeks, and an ongoing collection and delivery of daily bath needs (shaving, soap, shampoo, and toothpaste). DCC welcomes the opportunity to serve a wonderful institution in a time of great need, and to meet and break bread with the people finding shelter there.  For the people and the hearts that make this place happen, let us give thanks!

Backpacks and School Supplies
Members and friends of our congregation shop the back-to-school sales in July and August to assemble backpacks filled with school supplies for children of homeless and formerly-homeless families in SHELTER, Inc. and Contra Costa Interfaith Housing (CCIH) facilities.  We pray that being well-equipped as they begin the school year will help these children to succeed in school and break the cycle of homelessness.
